The air was hot and sticky at the all aired cooled Vintage Volkswagen Festival hosted by the Michigan Vintage Volkswagen Club. Many participants came out to show their rides and browse the numerous swap vendors. A line of bugs came out and one by one and the MC asked the audience what year is it? A discusiion of further suttle details rounded out each car in line. I am not super informed on VW’s and learned a lot while the cars were paraded. It was cool to see all the micro bus campers lined up, Carmen Ghia’s and Porsche 914 at the show. One beetle was all decked out with U of M gear. The beer bus was neat, to bad they were not selling some cold ones.

The car show was too cool for words and only pictures could do it justice but, unfortunately, some tool (me) was ill prepared with his camera, failing to capture all of the great rods, customs, classics and exotics that were on hand. I have the worst luck with cameras and it is time to get a new one. The Classic Legends Car Club put on a great show and the variety and quality of the top notch cars was astounding. Ferrari, Lambourgini and a DeLorean were all on hand. There were tons of vintage and old school rods and everything in between. The cars at this show had some of the coolest kustom work I have seen in a long while. Next year I promise to do a better job with the pictures and I highly recommend going to this awesome event even if you do not have a car to show.

The IHRA is not as cool as the NHRA, but it’s still is an enjoyable time. My daughters decided it was more important to play with friends so Mikey, my Dad and I headed down to Milan Drag way on Sunday. Even though my Dad could really care less about watching drag racing, the three of us had a great time. Now, Mikey loves all things mechanical and being that he has never seen or heard 8,000 horses car in action, I knew it would be a real treat for both of us. We did the walk through the pits and checked out different spots along the track. When our legs started to get tired, we settled down right at the starting line and watched a good 45 minutes of runs. Up next was the nitro burning funny cars and I told Mikey we should watch a few more runs before we moved. All day long he wanted to see the big dogs run and this was finally his chance. He knew they were loud and fast and when they fired up, his face lit up. By the time they did the first burn out he was at the front row holding his ears. The ground and grand stands pounded and he just grinned. He was thoroughly sastified with the raw power and I was thrilled just to see his face; it made the trip out to Milan well worth the trip.

Nitro Burning Funny Car Burnout

A wide variety of cars were on hand at the first ever Varsity Ford Car Show in Ann Arbor, MI. The weather was calling for rain, but the day stayed nice and pleasant. Raffles and trophies were on hand and I was hoping to when the crate motor, but no such luck. With food and music spun by Rock N Ronnie it really made for a great atmosphere. For a car dealer lot that is normally packed with new models it was nice to see it filled with older cars. The swap area had some good buys and the dealer had some great Ford parts on hand, too. I wish my camera was working better to get some pictures of the Drag Mustangs that were on display. Varsity Ford spared no expense and they made plenty of room for the event to take place. I will be looking forward to the next event they will host and encourage you to check it out.

The weather decided to stay perfect for the 29th Annual Ypsi Area Street Rodders Show N Shine at Riverside park. An estimated 300 plus cars were in attendance, which were all shined up and ready for the show. The event started Saturday night at the kick off party with about 50 cars in attendance. Clouds were abundant, but the rain held off long enough to kick a few tires and watch a flame throwing contest between two cars. Sunday’s show was top notch with a wide variety
of classics, rods and modern machines. The YASR put on a great show that was casual, clean and fun.
Door prizes, raffles, dash plaques and trophies added to the festivities with a DJ spinning classic car tunes.
